New York shopping at CENTURY 21!

New York without shopping for clothes would be like american flag without the stars - incomplete! ;) I bet you're nodding your head right now. LOL. And I don't blame you!
When I travel I try to avoid international shops like H&M or ZARA and I'm looking for unknown (to me at least) shops where I can find something special and one of the kind. When it comes to New York visiting Department Store called CENTURY 21 is a must! Apparently there's no better place to find discounted designer clothes. Warning - make sure you don't have to hurry anywhere as you might spend all day long in the store. Sounds like the perfect place for me! I'm putting it on my to do list!

Afford to look great at any time!

US OPEN

I'm not a big sport enthusiast but I love watching tennis! I think it's a super entertaining sport which gives a lot of excitement while watching. If you're a new yorker than big tennis is within reach, US OPEN is ON! Wow, that would be something to watch Djokovic playing with Nadal or Serena Williams playing with Sharapova on Arthur Ashe stadium....

And who would you like to see?

New York's Pastrami

So I've been to London recently and I bumped into this New York Pastrami sandwich at EAT. Although I wasn't that much hungry I knew I have to try it!! What is pastrami anyway? It's the sliced beef which as the raw meat is brined, partly dried, seasoned with various herbs and spices, then smoked and finally steamed. The name and the dish derive from Romania and apparently got very popular in New York as the koscher butcher Sussman Volk prepared pastrami according to the recipe he got from his Romanian friend in exchange for storing the friend's luggage while the friend returned to Romania. The meat was served on sandwich in his butcher shop in 1887. The place soon became a restaurant to sell pastrami sandwiches.

Here's my sandwich I had in London. I know, I know... it is probably the poor imitation of real pastrami as it has mayonaise in it but it was still very tasty. I can only imagine that eating the real pastrami sandwich is pure heaven. Especially for someone like me who luuuvs beef.

Now, in NYC the first place to have a pastrami sandwich is legendary Kat's Delicatessen which has been opened in 1888! OMG, the sandwiches here look amazing! And I love the simplicity of the dish - big portion of pastrami, bread and cucumber on the side.
Look what I found on Katz's website: "Our corned beef and pastrami is cured using a slower method, which best flavors the meat, without injecting chemicals, water, or other additives to speed the process. Our finished product can take up to a full 30 days to cure, while commercially prepared corned beef is often pressure-injected (or "pumped") to cure in 36 hours. Yep, you read that right. 30 days vs. 36 hours. Now, which sounds like the better meat to you?"
The place is packed day and night. People come here to eat not only pastrami but also hot dogs. And have you seen that film "When Harry Met Sally"? There's this scene with Meg Ryan filmed at Katz's. Oh no, I'm hungry!!

4th of July

Fourth of July is a federal holiday in USA commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain. Hence the name Independence Day. People all over the country celebrate it with fireworks, parades, family gatherings, concersts etc. And New York is no exception.

Here's the recipe on how to make such a cute flag cake . Great, yummy way to celebrate.

Also, here's Mariah's song titled 4th of July .

Ryan Gosling to be seen on the streets of New York

When you're in New York you never know who you're going to bump into. Now how would you like if you'd encounter Ryan Gosling down the street with his dog. Naahh, forget the dog! It's Ryan Gosling...

Ryan is actually canadian and he has lived in LA for some time but one or two years ago he decided to move to New York.
Everybody knows him and loves him for his role in "Notebook". I discovered Ryan in the movie called "All good things". After watching it I started my research and realized that I've seen him in "Murder by numbers" and "Fracture". I couldn't help myself but to catch up with all the movies he featured - including "Half Nelson" (for the role he got nominated for Oscar which is a big thing), "The believer", "Notebook" and of course "Blue Valentine" which i loove! Especially the scene at the Manhattan Bridge where he's trying to get Michele to tell him what's wrong with her.

Ice Cream time at Sundaes & Cones

I hear that new yorkers are real ice cream lovers. Is that right? I'm gonna find that out at Sundae & Cones. Apart from the classics like vanilla they offer fine ginger, red bean and mango scoops. Allegedly the black sesame is a real standout. I can't imagine how it can taste like. Can you?

Ps. Guess who recently visited the place?
One and only Katie Holmes.
Poor girl by the way...

NAS - the Don in a New York City

When somebody asks you to name one rapper representing NYC the answaer's got to be - NAS! Nasir (which is his real name) was born in Crown Heights, Brooklyn but later relocated with his family to the Queensbridge Houses in Long Island City, Queens. And here, in the ghetto he started his career. As you can see on the cover of his first albums there's the picture of Nas superimposed over a backdrop of a gritty New York city block. It shows his connection with the city that molded him.

Today I'm posting the brand new video from Nas - The Don. It has a beautiful views of the New York skyline. Check it!
